Need to Repair Your Motorola Phone? Try One of These DIY Kits

Take a busted Motorola mobile phone? You may be able to fix it yourself.

To make that task a piffling easier and less intimidating, Motorola has partnered with iFixit to sell practise-it-yourself repair kits for some of its smartphones, including the Moto G4 and G4 Plus, Moto 10, Droid Turbo 2, Moto G5 and G5 Plus, and Moto Z. The kits range from $40 to $200 and include all the parts and tools you lot'll need, plus a step-past-step guide, to supersede a dead or damaged bombardment or a cracked or malfunctioning display.

The partnership makes Motorola the start smartphone manufacturer to provide iFixit with replacement parts.

"For fixers like us, this partnership is representative of a broader movement in support of our Correct to Repair," iFixit's Elise Barsch wrote in a web log post. "By giving consumers easier admission to parts, people are better equipped to fix their cleaved devices—and more fixing ways less e-waste."

Barsch went on to say that "Motorola is setting an example for major manufacturers to embrace a more open up attitude towards repair."

In March, California joined the "correct to repair" fight with a bill that would crave electronics manufacturers like Apple to produce repair manuals and sell replacement equipment and parts for their devices. Seventeen other states accept introduced similar legislation, including: Washington, Massachusetts, Vermont, New York, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, North Carolina, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Virginia.

Apple, IBM, and other manufacturers have successfully lobbied against similar legislation in the past.
